Software Summary

The HealthInfoNet Clinical Portal gives participating providers the ability to securely look up and retrieve real-time patient medical record information in a view-only screen at the point of care, greatly improving patient safety and care coordination activities.

Software Updates

Implemented two (2) new notification subscription options to help participants comply with CMS’s latest Conditions of Participant (CoP) rule through the HIE’s Intelligent e-Notification service:

  1. Observation Admission – Receive a notification when a patient has been admitted to an inpatient or emergency department observation stay

  2. Observation Discharge – Receive a notification when a patient has been discharged from an inpatient or emergency department observation stay

As with all other available notification subscription options, users can choose to receive email-based alerts for these events either in real-time or on a daily basis.

For training or education on HealthInfoNet’s Intelligent e-Notification service, please contact our Clinical Education team at clienteducation@hinfonet.org.

Shortly, enhanced auditing functionality will be released to allow Auditor end users to identify users within their organization who are subscribed to the necessary notification subscription options to comply with CMS’s CoP rule, as well as a way to determine whether the notifications were successfully delivered. Additional release notes will be delivered when these enhancements become available.

More Information on HealthInfoNet's Support of the CMS CoP Rule

As of May 1, 2021, CMS requires all hospitals, per its CoP, to ensure a reasonable effort is made to send electronic notifications (e-notifications) to a patient’s treating provider(s) at either the provider’s request or the patient’s direction.

When patients are admitted/registered to, discharged from, or transferred from inpatient or emergency department settings (including observation stays), an alert is expected to be sent from the hospital to primary care providers and groups, post-acute care providers and suppliers, and any other providers requested by the patient.

To assist Maine’s healthcare organizations meet CMS’s CoP rule, HealthInfoNet offers its Intelligent e-Notifications as a standard service to participants of the HIE. The HIE Intelligent e-Notification service provides real-time alerting of time-sensitive events that make it possible for clinicians to establish the right care plan at the right time.
